Short Description:

Dynamic voltage restorer is a compensation device with energy storage device (system), its main function is to effectively prevent the impact of transient power quality problems (voltage sag, voltage surge, short-term interruption of power supply, etc.) on the load, suitable for protecting the normal operation of the whole production line, and can be connected in series between the system power supply line and the load (note: the power loop is connected in parallel to the front end of the load).
DVR device combines power electronics technology with advanced supercapacitor energy storage technology, when the system has voltage sag, sudden rise and short-term interruption, DVR device can use the power stored in the supercapacitor to provide the load through the inverter and transformer circuit, so that the user’s critical load can maintain normal power supply during the abnormal time of grid voltage and protect the normal operation of the load.

Features

DVR device is connected in series between the power supply and the protected load, it will continuously monitor the input side power supply voltage, once the supply voltage is found to deviate from the rated voltage level (±15%), the DVR device will provide the normal power supply voltage for the load through the IGBT inverter system, ensure the output side (i.e. load side) voltage stability, and ensure that the protected load is not affected by voltage changes.

Grid Voltage is Normal – Standby Mode
1. When the grid voltage is normal, the load is supplied directly from the grid.
2. The DVR is in standby mode, the thyristor electronic switch is turned on, cutting off the IGBT power module, but the grid status is monitored in real time, and it is in bypass standby to act immediately when the grid voltage fluctuates.
3. The loss of the complete system is only the DVR device control power supply, switching on-state loss, capacitor floating charge loss, etc.

Grid Voltage Anomalies – Compensation Mode

1. When there is a voltage sag, swell, or a short interruption, the DVR starts supplying power to the load.
2. The DVR is in compensation mode, which quickly cuts off the thyristor electronic switch and starts the IGBT power module at the same time.
3. The load is isolated from the grid.
4. Through the IGBT power module, the energy in the energy storage capacitor cabinet is inverted into a standard sine wave of the same amplitude and phase as before the drop to supply the user.

Grid Voltage Returns to Stability – Recovery Mode
1. When the DVR detects that the grid voltage returns to normal in the compensation mode, the voltage waveform output by the DVR is synchronized with the grid waveform, and when the synchronization between the two is completed, the thyristor electronic switch is turned on, and then the IGBT power module output is turned off. Power is supplied directly to the load from the grid again.
2. After the recovery mode is completed, the DVR automatically switches to standby mode and at the same time replenishes the lost energy for the energy storage capacitor cabinet.

Troubleshooting Mode
1. When the DVR equipment fails or is scheduled to be overhauled, the DVR device will switch to the bypass switch, and the load will be powered through the bypass loop, and the manufacturer can choose to disconnect the input and output switch for equipment maintenance, and after the maintenance is completed, close the input and output switch, disconnect the bypass switch, and the equipment will automatically resume operation.
